Birthday Coming Up!!!

Yes, it’s a BIG birthday coming up this weekend!!  Artful Bead in Carrollton is ONE year old on Saturday, August 1st!!

And we’re throwing a party and inviting you!  All day Saturday we’ll have cake and balloons and games with Prizes!!!  Cool and fun prizes like discount coupons and beads! 

And best of all?  You don’t have to bring a present – just show up and have fun and save money buying the most beautiful beads anywhere!  We’re giving everybody 25% off their entire purchase!  (Except books and classes, sorry.)

The Artful Bead Birthday Sale for the Carrollton store is this weekend – Friday and Saturday from 10 – 7   Yep, all day long both days.  And then on Sunday from noon till 5 too!  

And of course the Artful Bead in Fort Worth is celebrating right along with us, Friday and Saturday from 10 - 6, with the same sale prices, but no games, or balloons, or cake.  Well, maybe we’ll have cake.  (I saw it in a movie - ”Cake good.”  Right?  Or was it one of my boys?)

Fun and Games!

We’ve started playing a game here at the Carrollton Artful Bead.  It’s called “Torture the Solicitors,” and we play it whenever we get a phone solicitor call.

We get a LOT of phone solicitor calls.  We’ve asked them nicely to remove our number from the list, told them that we’re a retail store, we don’t need Dish network or auto warranties or a wonderful deal on internet service.  Still they call – 5 or more a day.

So here are the rules:  String them along as long as possible.  Be nice, be dithery, be very interested.  Extra points are awarded for style, duration over 15 minutes, and getting to a supervisor. 

After it gets boring, or we really do have work to do, we say “You know, we are NEVER going through with this, but every time you call, we’re going to waste your time, just like today.  Remove this number from your list, don’t call back.  This is a game that you can’t win, but we can’t loose.”

I figure wasting 20 minutes of some commission sales person’s time a couple of times will get our number removed, especially if we can get to a “supervisor” (yes, I know that they just take turns being supervisor of the day.)  And if not, at least it’s funny for awhile.   Maybe not to them, but we don’t like them anyway.

Vintage Sequins!

Now we have some sequins from the 1970’s to go with our 1960’s seed beads!!

We’ve got some lovely purples, greens, black ABs and golds in the “normal” shapes, and some flat off-center “lentils” in red, hot pink, and black, and some two-tone blue “pumpkin seed” ones!  They came from a woman who had a hat-making shop in the 1970’s, and she’s been holding on to them ever since!! 

We’re working on making a “fringe thing” bracelet using them – waaaaay too sparkly!!

And we still have the vintage Czech seed beads!  In all those wonderful flowery colors and greens, perfect for making beaded flowers!!  You know you need something to do inside, while it’s 104 outside!

And, as always, both Artful Bead stores are cool inside – we have both Air Conditioning and fun people!
